Casey E. Wentz, Esq./CPA (NC#36725)

Casey is an Attorney and Certified Public Accountant (NC#36725) in Cary, NC.  He graduated from the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2010 and earned a Master of Accounting degree in 2011.  Casey also graduated from the UNC School of Law in 2014 and has been working with Barringer Sasser, LLP since then.  He currently serves as Managing Partner and focuses on the taxation, mergers & acquisitions, and business consulting/transactions practice of the firm.

Casey is often asked to combine his experiences and accounting knowledge as a CPA with his legal acumen in assisting clients with one-time "complex transactions" such as buying and selling a business.  He uses the same knowledge to provide operational consulting for small to medium sized business owners in their executive decision making.  Casey enjoys the intersection of his two pools of knowledge and commonly acts as an effective translator between laypersons and their highly specialized accountants and tax preparers.

Casey “grew up” working for his father, Larry W. Pitts, Atty, and his mother, Debora B. Wentz, CPA, in their office building, where they shared space for their separate law and accounting practices.  With Larry, Casey focused in the areas of estate, tax & trust planning & administration, and closely-held business transactions. Casey also assisted Larry in his role as Attorney for the City of Newton with matters involving land use planning, zoning, local government litigation, and local government budgeting and financial operations.  With Debora, Casey helped complete tax return preparation for over 650 individuals, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations each tax season from 2005 through 2015. After tax season was done in each of these years, he completed audit/attestation services, focusing in the governmental and non-profit sectors.  He continues to advise organizations of all sizes on internal controls, accounting procedures, and risk management.

Casey assisted Senator Tamara Barringer as a research assistant at the General Assembly.  Deploying his knowledge as a tax return preparer and his legal and accounting research skills, Casey worked closely with numerous state legislators, legislative and executive branch staff, and several lobbyists to forge the 2013 major reforms to North Carolina state tax law.  He also helped pass extensive changes and updates to both North Carolina’s LLC laws and our Business Corporation Act.
